Default Raptor Problems

I am getting ready to buy a new ATV. I was looking at a new Raptor, but I had several people tell me that they had a lot of engine problems. I thought that someone here could give me more information about the Raptor.

I havent heard of any real engine problems. The only thing that happens with any regularity is the one way bearing going out. If you just shift into neutral before you hit the start button it will be fine.

i have heard of the 2001 models that have problems. If they are not rebuilt they will go out on you

The transmissions on the 01 raptors went out on a fairly common basis. Most people simply dont buy a used 01 unless it has been fitted with the 02 gears. RAPTORYFM660R (chet) has an 01 that is bone stock and still runs on the stock trans. Not all of them did it, but its bettter not to take the chance and just buy 02 or newer.

I have an 01 Rappy and can say that to this day I have never had a problem with it. I have'nt touched anything but change the sprockets, and am getting ready to replace the rear bearings this summer. Not bad for 3 years of solid abuse.Oh I also added a pipe and jet kitthis year.I'd buy a new one but why,,,,they havent changed for 3 years,,,,,except maybe some tranny gearing....All I can say is it was the best money I ever spent on a quad.
