Can synthetic oil make a older motor leak?
#1
Let me explain, I've been thinking really hard about switching to syn motorcycle oil in my 01 warrior. So today I stopped at a chopper shop to see what they sold. The owner told me never switch to syn oil in a motor thats not ran it since it was new, IT WOULD MAKE IT LEAK? Any feed back would be appreciated.

i would have to agree with the chopper shop and about a car i have seen it happen on higher miles on cars and the owner thinks they are treating there car special by putting syn oil in them they are doing good until it starts having leaks seen it too many times the oil is thinner and it goes past the seals

I have had the experience in a truck switching from regular oil to synthetic oil. The truck had high miles and I made a $2500 mistake, lost oil pressure and was not paying attention. Not saying it will happen to everybody but I take this experience to my quads.

So what are you guys trying to say? It will make my ATV leak oil, or does it just happen in automobiles? The seals and gaskets are alot different in a ATV motor versuses a auto motor. Anybody else switch to syn motorcycle oil after owning their quad for a few years?
Thanks

I know someone who has switched to synthetic in many cars with over 100k. Now I dont know about 330k switches, but he went from just over 100k to 205k on a buick lesabre and the engine was quieter and smoother than ever.

Synthetic oil is slicker than nat. oil........that is the main reason why you do not break a new engine in with syn, oil.........Yes it will cause problymns in MOST old engines.

Also when I put synthetic oil in my Wolverine it made the clutch slip real bad, and one of my buddies put it in his Recon and did the same thing. I am not a big fan of synthetic oil that much for quads, just in the newer vehicles.
