well...were both stock? even if one had a pipe and the other did'nt, means alot.
IMO:
i own both and the raptor is fully tricked +2 all around with elka's Bhla bhla bhla...the thing F'n rips. tourqey son-of-B. with the aftermarket goodies she handles as good as any race mahine...tracks rails and throws a roost to respect. took 2.5 years to dial it in.
the YFZ in comparison...is as fast. but revs up quicker and hits harder. in stock form, it has a mild low end and tears through the mid-range straight to the top.
i added the GYT-R Pipe-piston-jet kit and a pro design foam filter. and now this thing has a lowend that spins up my razor2's effortlessly (throwing fist size rocks) and the midrange is f'n insane. the machine literally trys to break free of your grip. I S you not. if feels like it's trying to lose you. this is the 2stroke hit that people talk about and that is winning over alot of the 2stroke die hards.
This weekend, i dialed in my YFZ's stock shocks. the handling now... is without question, as good as my raptor with elka's...there i said it. I don't care who believes me. will they fade before my elka's after a full alldays worth of riding?...yes..but eventually so will the elka's.
Listen, if i can hop on my stock YFZ and ride a 2-3 hr GNCC before my shocks fade? I am more than Happy. Ive never felt comfortable with $2k in shocks on my machine. that anyone with two wrenches could help themselves to.
and short of a Custom chasis, the geometry and wieght of the machine blows every quad away. period. including Canondales trick all aluminum chasis that stored the engines oils...and that thing was a piece of art.
even though my raptor can handle (as stated earlier) as good as any race quad. You can't throw it around like a lighter quad. Bigger guys can...But, imagine how they could handle a YFZ? and thats my point, the YFZ dances around you as opposed to you Riding a Raptor. ( example:I'm able to whip my YFZ on it's side wheels and momentarily pick lines like a dirt bike around rocks in the tight trails. could'nt manage that on the raptor. Maybe in a open field.)
the last thing i say will be a positive bone for the Raptor.
you'll always be able to build it up to spank a YFZ...so much building potential. so much.

There was nothing done to either of them.. ecept the raptor was rejetted.. the yfz had nerfs but that doesent help lol... There is no replacement for dispacement and i beieve it.. The only think that can keep up with ti is a good weight to power ratio that the yfz has.. Power ina yfz could deffinity change it all.. i just think that the yfz's are a little overrated....i mean really how much faster can it be? like 2mph

I've thought about getting one of the new 450's but I don't know If I can handle the hastle of maintaining such a race oriented machine.

I think that the YFZ is a good quad. But what I don't understand is when someone takes this Motocross atv and turns it into something quiet different. For example - the other day I was out riding at the river on my Raptor, and this guy on YFZ450 wanted to race me. My Raptor is totally stock and his wasn't, but I said ok. I didn't buy my Raptor to go out and race people with and most the time when someone asks me to race I will say no. I bought my Raptor to have fun on, feel the power, jump some stuff, ride trails, do wheelies and go everywhere an atv should go, and I will race every now and then. Anyway, the dude beat me...and I let up when I could clearly tell that I wouldn't catch him...and He continued to gas it and pull away. Well when we get down to the other end I hear this classic comment...."I guess those extra 210 cc didn't help you much, did they?" I think this shows this guy is a total idiot. Lets to the math: I paid $5500 OTD for my LE Raptor 04 brand new (Oh, by the way YFZ owners thanks for helping me get a price break on the Raptor while you flock to overpay for your YFZ!) and this guy paid at least $7000 OTD for his YFZ then he paid $500 for his exhaust, $500 for his 6 inch extended swing arm, and several hundred more for filter, cam mods and piston. Not to mention sand tires. So all together he has about 9K-10K invested in his YFZ that uses up about forty feet just to turn around. Now why would someone take a perfect quad with thousands of hours in R&D perfecting it for MX and make it to where it is limited to just one thing,......Make a straight line run? Just doesn't seem right to me....but it is his money not mine.....but I am not pulling trophies out my a$$ to hand to some fool...Seems to me 4K in a Banshee would spank his MX quad....To put us on the same level what would I have if I sunk the almost 4K difference in price into my quad?

People constantly spend a ton of money to make quads good at only 1 thing whether it is drag racing or MX or duning ... whatever... I don't see the point. If I want to go fast in a straight line I'll be a Hayabusa. I've kept mine so I can do anything with it. And when I need 4x4 I have the Wolverine. Isn't that what an All Terrain Vehicle is for?
