Im goin with the banshee
#1
I wanna get the banshee over the raptor and the predator. The guy at the yamaha dealership said keep it clean and it will be reliable. He said will probably be able to learn how to clutch in around 15 minutes. This will be my first ATV and cant wait to get it.
What are some things i should know about the banshee before getting it?
And what routine maintanence should i know about?
Thanks.

Good choice.
Break in properly
Get aftermarket filter and adaptor plate, stock is crap
Run good premix
Treat good because a banshee deserves it.
Always run premium
Stay on top of jetting
Be safe and have fun
If you have any other questions just ask me

What is jetting? OH boy. . It controls the fuel and air mixture in the carbs. As for break in Here goes.
Reguardless of what they tell you do this.
1. run yamalube 2r pre mix at the recommended 24:1 ratio. (Be sure to buy a ratio rite cup from the dealer to assure perfect mixing, couple bucks well worth it.
2. First thing is starting (I GET IN TO THIS BETTER AT THE END).
3. Get it so that you can put the choke all the way in and let it idle.
4. Now you want to run it through 3 heat cycles. Let idle for about 15min and get warm. then let it completly cool about 30 min. Do this 3 times before you even ride it.
5. Now that you have done the 3 warm up sessions. you can ride it.
6. For the first 2-3 tanks try to stay out of the powerband. Don't go above half throttle. And dont stay at a high rpm for more then a few sec. When rideing these first few tanks take random brakes to let it cool. Yes durring these few tanks of lugging it, it will run like crap and you may foul plugs but it will be worth it years down the road. THIS IS THE MOST IMPROTANT TIME IN YOUR ENGINES LIFE!!!!!!!!!
7. After about 3 tanks of this then you can lean the mix out to 32:1 and get off that yamalube. I run Castor 927, yes it cost extra but it's worth it. There are also other good premixes you can run too that are good.
*************FOR EVERY START DO THIS.*********
1. Now with the fuel turned off. DO THIS AFTER EVERY RIDE, get on the banshee and shake the crap out of it for about 15 sec. Most people dont do this and they should . ( Most premixes seperate from the gas in about 20min - 2Hours). This is very improtant!!!!!!! If you dont, you can run very high or low ratios of mixture which can cause seziure or cause premature engine ware, one of the reasons people have to frequently rebuild. This is bad!!!!
2. Turn fuel on!! Now give it 5 slow primer kicks to lube the cylinder walls. This prevents a dry start which also causes engine ware. ALSO VERY IMPORTANT MOST PEOPLE ALSO DON'T DO THIS AND THEY SHOULD.
3. Then kick to start and VERY IMPORTANT LET IT WARM UP NO REVEING. NEVER RIDE A BANSHEE BEFOR IT IS WARM, THIS CAN CAUSE COLD SEZIURE. I let it warm until the head is warm to the touch, about 6-7 min.
4. Finally ride out of the power band for about 5 min then when it hits the band quickly, LET IT RIP, AND ENJOY.
DO ALL OF THIS AND I ASSURE YOU A GOOD LONG ENGINE LIFE.
