Default shock tech question

ok here it is.. the raptor is my first four wheeler/ATV of any kind worthy of trying to make ride better (all the rest were fairly worn out) someone please explain or point me in a direction to read.. preload and spring adjustments and whatever.. id like to adjust my shocks to fit me better... i am considering getting aftermarket shocks but at this point i cant afford them... i would like to lower my rappy a bit since i do mostly woods and tactics rideing id like it to be a bit more stable.. i very rarely jump.. any help here would be great.. thanks

you dont need compression or preload or anything like that if you dont jump just make them soft or stiff to your likings and you should be fine but aftermarket shocks cant hurt
