Default Paddle Question

I KNOW this MIGHT not be the exact same thing but I'll mention it. After a trip out with my Baja and a new set of Sand Tires Unlimeted 13oo plusses, and having a problem with bogging it down. I talked with Mark (the owner of STU) He said people worry a lot about paddle size and numbers of paddles BUT forget about engine& gearing. A simple gearing change makes all the differance he said. Now this was about my Baja. BUT I'd think gear changing on bikes and quads is WAY less difficult than VW tranys. So how about gearing for your bike with 8's? instead of modifying your paddles which Mark was totaly agaist.

Why not just buy an 8 paddle Hauler/Glider combo. My bro runs that set up..
