Default Crank balancng for 686?

Think I should do it if I get a 686? I'm doing a rod for sure, but I'd rather not spend the money on balancing if I don't really have to.

usually you only need to balance an engine with seperate rotating masses, like a two cylinder or more engine, you wont get any benifit from balancing the crank unless it it mess up already. The crank has a counter balancer that should already be matched to it but iff you have alot of vibration already and you are gonna have it taken apart to replace the rod then go ahead and do it if does not break your budget. If you are trying to lighten your rotating mass by loosing weight off of the crank, rod, flywheel, then it will rev faster but sometimes wont idle very well, but it will give you a performance gain.

Thanks guys. I'm trying to keep the cost down a little if its not necessary. I suppose it would be a good time to do it though since I'm planning on getting an updated tranny and new rod. I think we may have another Craycraft beast on the loose soon.

When you want to make big HP on the top end, Truing your crank wheels to match your new rod is a very GOOD idea.......

Falicon did the crank/rod work on mine as well. They seemed to do a good job, no vibration.

Thinkin of gettin a Craycraft eh?? Good choice!! I didn't have my crank balanced until I blew the engine cause it got messed up pretty good. Good thinkin on the rod too, I highly recommend that. If I woulda done that before I wouldn't of had to fork out the cash for a new engine. What craycraft build you thinkin of doin?

As of right now I'm thinking pretty hard on a signature 686 with a 13.5:1 piston. I going to get a 2002 tranny, I haven't had much of a problem with mine yet, but I don't want to risk ruining a new motor. I guess I might as well do it all right now so I don't have problems later. When I get this done I swear to god I'm going to burn my checkbook.
