New Raptor missing on jumps? Help?
#1
I buddy of mine just bought a new Raptor and he has been trying to break it in. He probably has 5 hours on it at he most. Yesterday he was riding on some flat land and he wanted to jump it a bit. Below is the email he sent me. Can anyone help him? Is this normal for Raptors? I am not too familiar with them.
It ran real good until we started doing some jumping. The hills were really high, so we were hitting them in first gear mostly. After jumping for a bout 10-15 minutes it started backfiring and missing. I went to hit the gas on tope of one of the high hills and it missed. Made me come down nose first on the other side of the hill. Scared the crap out of me. When we left and started running more open ground, it started running fine again.
Thanks for everyone's help.

I know this seems obvious, but I've done it before myself. Did he have enough gas in it? If theres not alot left and your on flat ground, then the fuel will sit in the bottom of the tank and flow fine into the petcock, but if your on an incline the fuel will slope to the back of the tank and not cover the outlet to the petcock enough to get suction....... Other than that, I'm out of my league.

If it's brand new take it to the dealership and have them figure it out. It shouldn't do this at all and will be covered under warranty.
It could have something to do with the level of fuel in the float bowls.

It sounds like high float levels, it's a common problem. But your buddies discription of what was going on is not very good so it's hard to give a good answer to the question.

I have a similar problem. My raptor typically misses when I land off a jump. It only stumples for a second, but sometimes it is enough to put your weight way over the front of the bars. Could this be a float issue or just a change in the fuel level as the gas sloshes around in the tank?? It happens often and I just noticed it again tonight when I was riding, but my fuel level was low. Any ideas?
