I like the cut a flat space into the screw and use a straight screw driver method!!! always worked for me

slot the head with a hack saw and use a flat head it works every time i have tried it. and vise grips sometimes work maybe 50 % of the time

I recently stripped one of mine while taking my airbox lid off...I used a dremel and try to make a slit but I messed up and didn't get it quite right, so I used some needle nose vice grips....came right off...

roach,
you're right. I have some extractors. They are worth the money. I replaced the brass bowl screws on my DS with SS allen head crews. Much easier to jet!

first put some penitrant or wd-40 on it and tap it with a hammer to let the penitrant/wd-40 sink in. then just some plyers and grab it really hard and turn, depending on how big it is if that doesn't work u can try to go to sears and get the stripped screw removers, i tried them but all they did was hollow out the screw even more, waste of 20 bucks, but u could give it a try and see if they work better for u

Assuming it is a phillips, after you have the bad screw out, take out the rest of them as well, then go down to your local hardware store and buy some allen head screws. . .most allen head screws/bolts are high grade alloy, even from the hardware stores.

If they are just striped a little bit take a hammer and pound on them a couple of times and then take your screwdriver place it in the hole and pound on that a cople of times while turning it a little like your loosining put the hamer down push down as hard as you can and turn it. When taking screws out of the carb, before they are striped i usually pound my screwdriver in to make it tighter helps alot.

I would suggest investing in an impact driver. It works great for removing stubborn phillips head screws. Also, if the heads are too stripped out, just get a drill bit the size of the head or larger and drill untill the screw head falls off. Then you just remove the carb bowl and unscrew the remaining screw.

all good methods. The dremel tool/cut yourself a new line works. The vice grip thing works if you can get a bite on it. And my personal favorite is the ez out method. (some call them ez outs, some call them extractor bits, same thing) Sears sells them, and I'm sure a lot of other places do too. They work best on the bigger screws.
