I think that the raptor will be great. But, a good 400ex rider can stay with anyone. It is the rider mostly not the machine. just my thoughts....

AMA raised the cc's for the DS so I think they'll raise them again for the Raptor

I think the 400ex is a great quad but remember: There's no replacement for displacement!

LDJ when you say out run im not sure if your talking about XC, motox, or just 300 yard drags someplace. So if the first two are what you are meaning, then yeah..I might have to agree with your "faster" statement. If its the latter....id have to see it to believe it. But hey its all good!
A friend of mine has a 4EX and had it bored .020 over, 38mm carb, stock gearing, FMF head/exhaust, etc and when we race its kinda close until 4th gear....its like that EX can *really* stand another gear. When I had 2-into-1 pipes, we always had good races..usually depended on the starts. (got PC pipes now...CYA!) In the woods...the tighter it was the easier it was for him, thus he was a bit faster. But just as soon as we hit a hill or open area...bye bye.

A stock DS650 setup correctly, can run with piped banshees in a drag. I've proven this over and over again. I run taller gearing which gives me a better holeshot and also higher top speed. Does your 400EX run faster or even with piped banshees in a drag to 70mph+?

My quad against a piped Banshee? Well my friend has a '99 Banshee with a k&n and pro circut pipes. On a all out top gear race, I can keep up with him until about 4th gear then he kills me, I suppose if I change sprockets I would keep up better. I normally ride in the dunes and I race piped banshees up hills. I keep with them up to the very top and normally they beat me by one quad lenghth. I have only beaten like two Banshees with pipes, probably because of the rider. A stock banshee I can beat pretty good. Hey, I rode a DS they are fast, but just too big for me.

I am talking about my quad versus any other stock quad, any riding condition. Yeah, I admit I can't beat a piped banshee, but a stock banshee I can.
