Well.... It finally happened to my 01 rappy... It "dun messed up" lol. 1st the starter clutch bearings burned out and i replaced the whole thing, BTW this problem causes it to not start properly... 185$ Well i installed it and it ran perfectly for a day... now there is a LOUD knocking sound and smoke pours out of the gearbox air intake after about 2 minutes of running. We are breaking down the motor sometime next weekend.. My question is does anyone have any idea what it could be (the knocking or the smoke?).

Sounds like a cracked piston. Is it a stock piston in it?

 

Yes sir... i hope not... Could a oil pump have caused it to crack? The heat around the four wheeler is unbearable at around 3 minutes of idle and then it shuts itself down

Maybe you have a cooling problem like a stuck thermostat or something.

 

hmmm.. ill have to get the head off of it soon. maybe tomorrow and report my findings. Would heating issues cause the gearbox to smoke like that?
