I thought he had an issue with the wrist pin on that JE piston as well. Regardless, point taken.

We will never know exactly what happenned on that stock bore Raptor. After something lets go it's very tough too sift through the carnage and determine what the culprit was. Was it the pistons fault (we know JE has redesigned them)? BigBubba just recently tore his engine down too find a crack atop his JE piston. Did the rod break from the increased compression? Was the engine running too hot? It's a shady area and no-one has pin-pointed exactly what the problem is.

Default next mod for the raptor?

Guys, thanks for all the knowledge. I dont want to be the test pilot for engine work just looking to get around 50 hp from my baby without blowing it up..

I heard that a stage two cam robs a little power off the low and midrange power, I definatly don't want that.. How about a 102mm bore (686) 11.1 piston with a carillo rod with a stage one cam and head porting? does that sound risky? I don't ride hard in the top end anyway and have the stock rev limiter, I prefer the torque and power down low.

Also the PEP steering stabilizer is still in the box and I am having second thoughts about installing it...whats better?

Denton is 10X better. Don't even waste your time with the PEP. Tape it back up, and ship that thing back....

What is the main differrence between the stage 1 and stage 2 cams...

I heard you have to run high in the rpm's all the time to make a stage 2 worth it and it loses a little off the bottom end.. I ride hard but still want a hard hit from the bottom as I ride some technical trails every now and then.

I had a stage two in my old 686 and it had a lot more torqe and low end than stock. I wanted more top end so I was planning on going with a different cam but then the piston pin went so I had to do the whole engine.
