Get the hot rod crank over Vitos...........been there done that, the stock crank "works", but the better aftermarket cranks are tougher, stronger, straighter, and come with better lower rod bearings (9 ***** instead of 8?) if I remember right.....

 

Is the Vito's crank just a stroked stock crank then?

 

Why not just go long rod?
Alot cheeper.

 

Stroker = more power

Long rod = a little more reliable but pretty much no gain powerwise.

 

Longer rod does nothing for engine size either. The longer rod increases dwell time at TDC for a potentially more efficient combustion cycle.

Something tells me this quote has been taken out of a very specific context...

If you increase compression you will gain some torque this is true no matter what type of crank you are running but since the stroker crank already adds torque because of its longer stroke, no matter what you do with equal mods the stroker crank will always produce more torque.


In essence what he is saying is that with a few mods you can make the long rods crank produce as much power as a stroker crank wich is true but add the same mods with the stroker crank and the stroker is clearly the winner in the power department and that's a fact.

This is pretty much like saying dont waste your money by buying a Mustang Cobra you can mod an Honda Civic to put out as much power as a Mustang, sure but what will happen when the Mustang owner starts modding his own ride...

 

I totally agree that the stroker crank will be better in the long run. But for similar power you can use the long rod at a fraction of the price. With my blaster, All i need to do put in a banshee rod, which i believe is +4mm compared to a blaster, and a plate spacer and already Im only about 150 bucks in the hole. It's not going to be as effective as the stroker, but if you want reliability then this could help.

 

Just do what I did. I put a Wiseco longrod stroker in my Banshee. While I was at it, I also stuffed the cases to decrease crankcase volume.

I used 795 series pistons for the longrod and a spacer for the stroke. That way, I can use off the shelf readily available domes.

Motor runs very well.
