Default Raptor engine tear down.

Well since she blew only 80 psi of compression I'm tearing her down. I have everything off including the cylinder head cover. First question, why so many bolts to hold the cylinder head cover on? I count 17 total. Next, what should one do as far as the camshaft and timing chain are concerned? I want to put this engine together only once so the timimg most be right on the first time. Should I remove the left hand side cover to help in this area?

I have worked on 4-cycle engines before, but never one this high-tech. The old B&S lawn mower special is pretty old school compaired to this. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Default Raptor engine tear down.

go to www.raptortranny.com They have a good guide on tear down and rebuild. Make sure you don't let the timing chain fall down into the engine, it would be a pain to fish out.
There are three spots on the cam gear to line up, the website has pictures and a good explanation on how to do it. It really isn't a hard job.

I believe the reason for all the bolts on the cylinder head cover is so that it will seal up evenly since there is no gasket.
