This is what my friends told me to use.

They feel it is the best oil and the perfect combination.

2001 Banshee
Toomey T5s with FMF silencers
Toomey 2:1 UNI filter with 310 main jets

Ride at sea level-->Oregon Dunes

Thanks in advance,
Martin

I've read the 40:1 thread, I'm just wondering if the 310 mains might need a leaner mixture of the 50:1.

What should you look for to see if it's running lean or rich?

Actually by taking away the oil you are richening up the mixture air/fuel that is. I run Bel-Ray H1R at 50:1 with absolutely no problems. I have borescoped the cylinders/pistons and they look perfect after 15 hours. Granted this is not alot of time, but this motor is leaned on a little mor than stock. I have coated domes and skirts, which helps, but does nothing for the bottom end. The Maxima 927 is a good oil, but I just prefer the H1R. It is designed for powervalve motors so it is a truly clean burning oil. A friend uses Golden spectro at 50:1 and it seems to carbon up more. As for your question 50:1 is fine, as long as the oil is a respected brand and is not recommended otherwise.

Thanks Eric!

I'm an old timer 2-stroke rider, being renewed. Unfortunately I have about 5 bottle of this Castor 927 left to burn.

I'll switch over when I'm done.

Is the Yamalube 2R any good in comparison?

Thanks,
Martin

The 2R is not on the same level as the H1R. Red Line makes an oil that is probably comparable. I have used the following and found the H1R to burn the cleanest: Yamaha 2R, Golden Spectro, Motul 600. Just my opinion however, your results may very, but I doubt it.

Don't worry. You can use Castor 927 all you want since the Banshee does not have powervalves. People have to be careful with using castor oil due to gumming up the powervalves on motocross bikes. But your Shee will be just fine.

Thanks for the support!
I guess we are ok using it at that ratio, I plan to continue using the 927 and then switch to the H1R at 50:1.

Thanks,
Martin

Don't forget thought, that carbon build up on piston domes is not agood thing either. You want some, this ensures a proper fuel/air mixture. However, too much can cause detonation since the carbon will soak up heat, it also changes the contour of the piston dome. And, if you piston domes are carboned up so are your exhaust ports and combustion chamber. I prefer a clean burning oil, it keeps the domes, chambers and exhaust ports clean. Have you ever seen a carbon buildup on an exhaust port? It can restrict flow and reduce power. Later
