Need help with wolverine
#1
Just got done cleaning my carb and the engine still bogs down in everygear and in neutral and has a hard time staying alive at 1/4 throttle. I put carb cleaning liquid in my gas tank and let the bike run for a good half hour. then i went to rev it and some black smoke came out of the pipe and then it went back to the normal exhaust color. I changed the oil and it is still good so i know the oil is alright. Any ideas on whats wrong with it? it also back fires through the carb and into the airbox like hiccup at 1/4 throttle
Thanks for the help

You didn't say what year it was, but if it is a 96 or newer, it could be your brake safety switch is bad, which kicks in a rev limiter, and barely lets you get above idle. Look for some wires running up to the left side by the parking brake, there is a plug that can be taken off, if that fixes your problem, leave it off or get a new one. A lot of people, like me, kept frying the rear rotor on the 95 Wolverine, so they put it in to keep it from happening again.

I have a 95, so I don't have these wires, but I'm sure one is for the start in gear switch, follow the wires, two of them should go to a plug somewhere, just unplug and tape it off, sorry I can't be more help, I just know about the switch, not exactly where it is.

See, now that's something I wouldn't have thought to check, the 95 Wolverine has a bolt on carb, like the Warrior, in 96, they switched to a CV type carb and a different intake. Mean, do you know where the parking brake plug is?
