I am new to sport quads and I have been looking at the z400 really well. I know that the yfz 450 is an awsome bike from what I have read but never rode one before. How do these bikes compare and how do you rate the 450? Would you recommend it and what do you like and not like about the 450? I am not into racing but plan on trail riding and having fun! Thanks!!

 

Depends...are you new to riding? Do you have the extra money for the YFZ that you don't mind spending? I personally love my YFZ, Yamaha did a VERY good job with the R&D. The Z400 is a little mild compared to the YFZ and the suspension isn't as great either. Don't get me wrong, the Z is a good bike but not built as competative as the YFZ. If your planning on just riding trails and crusin around you'd prolly like the Z a little better than the YFZ mainly becuase the power is easier to control and the suspension wont jar your around like the YFZ's will. they are both greet bikes and ive owned both so i know what im talking about. in the woods or tight trail ridding the z400 seemed to work better but everywhere else the yfz450 was better. it was really nice having the reverse on the z400 and had a great ride. the yfz450 rides like a tank even with the better seat on the 05's. for light jumps the z400 was softer but was to soft for heavy jumps. the 450 is able to jump as far as you dare but lands hard compared to the z400. as far as power their is no comparison. the 450 will spank the 400 every time. in the dunes the 400 just sat around because the 450 was alot more fun to ride. both are great bikes it just depends on your style of ridding.

 

Funny how suzuki hasnt even come out with a "true" race bike, well this year (05) they made those really nice upgrade but no 450 engine (from the factory) and has takin home the GNC title. So ethier bike is great and can be modded well for competitve racing just all depends on how big your wallet is. BUt if your on a budget you cant beat the YFZ or TRX.

 

I have a Z400, Z250, YFZ450, and Raptor 660.

Now the Z400 in my opinion is the most comfortable, in terms of light riding and trail riding. the Z250 is next, but obviously is underpowered, the raptor is just plain kick *** for trail riding, but much more tiring because of frequent body movements for balancing. And the YFZ, well, just got it, have to get back to you on that one...
