I don't know if anyone has brought this up in other threads but you might want to use a yamaha filter during the warranty period just in case your motor goes south for some reason.

Default Yamaha Raptor 660 aka 660R aka YFM660R - Oil Filter Fram PH6017a

I am tuning up a friends 2004 Yamaha Raptor 660 aka 660R YFM660R. I purchased a Fram PH6017a Oil Filter at walmart tonight for $6.47 + tx. It fits great and spins right on. The only difference compared to the stock Yamaha Filter part # [5DM-13440-00 also listed as 5DM-13440-00-00] is the length; it is about 3/4" longer than the original OEM Yamaha filter.

The aftermarket Fram PH6017a is a "Motorcycle filter" so it costs more than the normal automotive oil filters - the important difference is the female threads are slightly larger than standard car filters which means no standard auto oil filter will spin on to the threads.

I like the fact that the Fram is commonly available - Walmart... for a reasonable price vs $16 at the dealer.

This filter size is considered a "Universal Japanese filter" used on a lot of machines and a whole lot of filters will crossover including Honda,Kawasaki and Polaris 4 stroke filters.
