Default Raptor engine dragging/vibration

I went riding yesterday and felt a sporadic vibration that acted like an engine brake. It would start to occur and stay there for a minute or so and then go away. RPM's, throttle position, engine load, etc didn't seem to affect it. I have had the quad a couple of years and not experienced anything like it. I am concerned that it is the transmission going out or another large mechanical failure. Has anybody experienced a drag on the engine similar to this? It is an 01 Raptor with the original transmission and all other original internal parts.

Does it seem like a limiter kicks in?

It is an 01, it almost felt like the chain was being held up by something. It seemed to do it worse when I got in off camber positions or when turning. The engine would still rev fine, it just wouldn't go like it usually does. The loss in power seemed to be between the engine and the rear wheels. Can a stretched chain cause this affect? I currently have the chain adjustment all the way out and it is just barely still within spec.

I was wondering if anybody who has an 01 Raptor with a failed transmission (it seems like many do) experienced the same symptoms before it went out. And what does a failing one way bearing feel like?

Sometimes you can get some chain slap on the swingarm skidplate that can mimic what you describe.

Take a look at your chain/skidplate (the ones that have the teflon chainguide attached can make an odd noise/clunking)

Dang pinhead, how much did that set you back? And how much to be proactive and do it before extensive damage occurs?
