I'm not sure how members not knowing how to set their own preferences and then asking you to do something about it qualifies as not doing anything.

Most users dont answer to 50 different threads at a time. Also, if you are checking in here everyday, then the emails shouldnt build up. The main use of the feature is so that when you ask a question you can be notified when someone responds to it. Not everyone is here everyday and some people only care about the questions they ask. Its for these typically new members and the more conservative posters that this option would make sense for. Since the less time you spend here the less idea you would have on the inner workings of these forums, it makes sense to be enabled by default so that newbies dont have to figure out how to do it.
This is all not to mention the fact that in many of these forums your thread can be lost very easily due to the high number of posts. Since the today page only lists the last 20 posts, you may not have a direct link to the thread you were looking for. If you subscribed to the thread, you have periodic updates as to the activity of the thread and dont have to search to page 20 to find the one you were looking for.

I'm pretty sure that this isnt the original forum format. Dbeck used to use a different program/setup for the forums.
I'm not sure how you could improve the search functions. You already have different boolean options, the ability to search by different forums, by username, and by date. What else do we need? I've not seen any other options that I felt were significant on any other forum that I have belonged to, so I'm curious what you may have seen that could be put into practice.

I do agree that stickies are a good thing, but as chet said, there are often way too many. Just think of how many you could have in the yamaha forum... Jetting, suspsension, pistons, etc. I think the main thing that needs to be done in this forum is an emphasis on USING the search function. That and the resulting hundreds of little kids posting asking the same stupid questions and the "can this quad beat this quad" thread count usually keeps me away from these forums for weeks at a time. I can only handle so much ignorance.

I'm not saying put pages and pages of stickies, just a couple that will answer questions that are asked to much. Or at least one sticky that might inform users of the search and how well it works, there is lots of info in these forums ready to be searched for instead of asked 3 times daily in a new post...ya know? I'm sure you guys could come to some sort of conclusion on what works best and how to go about doing it...use the 'ol noodle

Sixsixt,
You told me about using that search, using it for specific info over the the main search up above between profile and today quite a long time ago so the actual credit should go to you for seaching that one out.
