Actually they don't, I just did that to get folks in here Anyways, I got a question on some oil I just bought, does anyone have Maxima Maxum4 10W40 4-cycle oil. How good is it? Also can you mix 10W40 and 10W30? And how often do most of you change your oil. Last one, is the transmisssion oil seperate? Thanks

One more thing, do you have to replace the oil filter when you change the oil, thanks

for a second there, I thought I was going to have to beat your ***.

..anyway, I would never mix oils together.

No you dont have to change the filter when you change the oil, but none the less they aren't a big scar in the wallet, so why not do iteverytime anyway?

The transmission and the oil tank are connected, drain the oil tank, then the trans, and fill as required.

When I change oil I drain, change filter, etc.. then fill the oil tank, let it idle for 10 seconds or less, then fill the tank again until your limit is reached. :\

10W40 and 10W30 are 2 different weights of oil. While it wont hurt anything to mix it still isn't the best idea.

The 10 is the weight of the oil when cold and the 40 and 30 is the weight when hot. the thicker oil (10W40) is better used in hotter weather because it offers better protection by staying thick when hot. If you ever notice when it's hot out (above 80 or 90) thinner oil becomes even more thin and eventually loses it's effectiveness, 10W30 does it at about 90 degrees and almost looks like water. I am currently running 20W50 in my YFZ during these hot summer months and it's working very well. I recommend using Yamahalube in all Yamahas but other oils like Maxima and Torco will work good too.

I change my oil every month or every 5 or so rides.

No, the engine oil and tranny oil are the same.
