Utility v. Sport

A few months ago my dad bought us a kodiak 400 4x4 (the older one w/ solid axle rear, so it was cheap) When we ride we just take turns on it. But as some of you may already know, one is simply not enough. I want a new sport quad, and we have been looking at a warrior, or a Blaster (both '04) I am 14 and 5'5 and 115 lbs., and I will be the main rider. We have a few tight woods trails, and quite a few open feild trails. With the blaster I'm worried about the small size and low end power. With the Warrior I'm worried about handling and weight. I also like the reverse, but the low weight of the blaster shouldn't make that too big of a problem. the kodiak has plenty of speed of power (for now, I've only ridden the trails on our land) but I want something with better handling, with equal power (but prefurrably(?) more) and any other suggestions would be helpful but don't want to spend more than 4 grand. Thanx in advance!

The blaster is the best bang for the buck in entry level sport quads. You can buy new for around 3k and really make some nice power with a pipe and other bolt ons. The handling is pretty good for what it is. Your size should be ok on the blaster, I've seen much larger riders on them. The warrior is also an excellent machine and if you can find a deal on one it would be a better bike in many situations. It is heavier, and the handling is a bit sluggish, but it still does a very good job of getting you around the trails. You really cant go wrong with either bike, but the blaster would fit much easier into your price range, with some loot to spare if you bought used. If you have a chance to, ride them both around, or at least sit on them and try to get a feel for them. That will be a very good indicator as to what you will be happy with.

i think that they are both great quads.my brother has thw warrior 04 and loves it for trails and hill climbs and opening it up down a field.however the blaster would kick *** because it is more of a racing quad and if u wanna get into racing this would be a great quad while the warrior is more of a trail quad. however they are both great quads and a real blast.good lck with either one

I hate to betray my 2stroke family cause i do love 2strokes but I think youd be good with a warrior. If your dad is willing to pay for either and the type trails you have the warrior is a great machine. my Wolverine is the same basic engine as yours and my buddy has a warrior. he has a full yoshi exaust and high compression piston and mine has what is listed below. In the long run if you clean the filter and change the oils and keep your zerks greased it should run practically forever without and work. maybe two or three years down the road get rings and piston freshened up. I got my wolverine new in 2001 and just about a month ago I felt it was getting a bit sloppy and it needed a new electric starter so i threw a high compression wiseco piston and a white brothers camshaft with new valve springs in. I already had the FMF exaust and K&N intake package from albaaction.com. Blaster is a fun quad and it will fit but at 14, i could be wrong but im guessing you havent quite hit your growth spirt and the warrior wont be too much stock for you at your size and when you fill out youll have plenty of accessories both engine and others to upgrade your bike. thats how i rode my wolverine I got it when I was 14. I rode it for two years or so stock totally happy. then upgraded the pipe and intake (makes a world of difference) then i went for the bigger bang and did the cam and piston but only because the top end was getting a bit sloppy, ive ridden mine hard and long the engine is rock solid. I am a 2 stroke fan the blaster is a great peppy bike but it doesnt have reverse and if your in tighter trails depending on your skill it will be more work to ride and less versitile. I love 2 strokes to the end, i own a 500 two stroke and even without a place to store it really im holding on for dear life to it.
