Dirt in gas tank now what?

yes the fumes are what are flamable, but you start welding on it with a torch that is hundreds of degree's it will ignite the fuel. Tanks MUST have a vent on them anyways for them to run fuel into the petcock.

Weld with a full tank of gas? What the hell?
Have you seen a tank without a vent in the cap? I know there is a vent on the cap on my 1980 three wheeler. Thats one of the dumbest welding tips I've ever heard.

You don't have to have a vented cap.......and lets just say I was talking about an automobile, because generally you won't be welding on atv tanks, because they are plastic......so how bout on an automobile.....you guys think what you want, and I'll think what I want. Mine make perfect sense, and works......I know a welder that told me this, he is a certified welder who welds on tanks all the time(actually mostly big storage tanks, but some small auto tanks too), and he said, if they aren't new and have fumes in them, then I want it full....and that is what I go by too. I'll quit arguing though, because I'm sick of being called stupid......I guess you guys can't respect someone else's opinion/idea.....

nobody is calling you stupid, they are saying your idea is dumb. Dont be a cry baby and run away with some skeptics come calling.
An automobile is the same way. I worked on diesel motorcoaches for a long time and i couldnt get a welder to touch one of those tanks unless it was emtied and cleaned with water. Now if you've ever messed with one of them you'd know what a bitch it is since it has 3 seperate compartments for fuel to keep the sloshing down.
You ever see the backside of a peice of metal as its being welded? You going to tell me that the bright orange/red dot isnt going to dissapate fuel AND cause a spark? If you say no then you and your welder belong in bed with eachother.
My atv tanks are aluminum.
