Restrictive Yfz 450...
#1
I have recently got a yfz 450 and i wanted to know how big the power increase is going to feel once I; throw on the HMF bill balance complete system, take airbox lid off (switch to K&N airfilter), and change the cam timing to the timing of its dirtbike brother. I am very happy with the quad but you can tell it is really restictive and that some of its power is being robbed.
The weekend after i have bought it, I had raced my friends 400ex (white brothers R4 exhaust system, and some intake mods). Due to an easy break in, I short shifted 1-3 (just to play it safe) and we held pretty even (keep in mind, i was new to how it reved up, etc). Then when i had pinned it in 4th and then 5th I easily walked away from him.
I just want to know if doing these upgrades are gonna put the butterflys in my stomach that I was looking for, or will i need to go bigger on the mods to get the chills when i pin the gas.
Thanks

I red a reveiw in some magazine (cant rember which one because there are so many) that upon testing the yfz they yamaha guys had them bring the yfz for a pit stop, the removed the airbox lid and put on a gytr pipe and it "felt like a whole new bike"
i hope that helps, because i dont have one as much as i wish i did

I've done those exact mods to my YFZ. If I had it to do all over again I would spend the money ten times over and be just as happy. Words cannot describe how much power is left on the table with these things. I went from doing so so in drag racing at our local hangout to being king of the hill in one week. Well, that was until other YFZs like mine started showing up and beating me. But that's something one can live with. I think Steven put it in a "NUT"shell for you. I just have an FMF slip on, no lid and jetted. Huge difference. When ya start jetting, get the easy adjust fuel screw. The stock one is buried inside the
bottom of the carb and is a pain to adjust. FYI.
