I am looking to buy my first ATV and am mainly looking at these two as possibilities, i trail ride and i like getting dirty while i do it. i want something that I can modify as i get used to the speed and riding. Any advice would be great, thanks.

I think it would boil down to whether I wanted a 4wd and/or a clutch or not. Both quads will get you nice and dirty with their sporty fenders. The Raptor is going to be lighter and sportier, but the wolv does pretty good in this area also. They both have great reliability and will take many of the same mods. In order to make the wolverine play well you will need a Warn 424 which is around $250, an aftermarket skid is a must also. Good luck deciding!

Thanks for the input so far, and if anyone disagrees with my two choices please feel free to suggest something else. I have not owned my own since i was 11 (suzuki quadsport 80) and have not looked into buying one for about 8 years. But now i have the money and am new at this all over again. thanks again.

well what do you mean you like to get dirty. I love my wolverine I think it's a great all around quad. My buddy has a tricked out warrior (rap 350 same thing basically). Both great machines most of the times its not that much different when we ride together I have the 424 select and ride in 2x4 most of the time. Wolverine is shaft drive instead of chain and has 4x4 instead of 2x4. the shaft drive is less maitnence and you get higher ground clearence. if you enjoy playing in rivers/ mud riding I would definatly say get the wolverine. The 4x4 and semi-auto clutch are much better when you get stuck down in the muck. There is plenty of room for improvement and accessories on the Wolverine. if you ride dirt trails and fields and dont really need 4x4 then the raptor is probably a better bet. I have pics of my wolverine on my pics page you can check them out. I started stock, before i did any mudding I got CV boot guards and skidplates for the engine. THis is a must if your going to be in the muck and trails with rocks. they have saved me more times then i could ever count and the skidplate has the gashes to prove it. i went with the highlifter diamondplate package and OXlite CV guards. From there 424 select lets you slide pretty much just like the raptor350 in 2x4. More information on the type of riding you do would really help in giving you a more difinitive reccomendation.

From what i remeber i like the mud and water. going though creek beds, on the trails after a good spring or fall rainfall, that kind of riding. I could be wrong about that, like i said i have not ridden in a long time. I also want the some speed though and as i said want something that i can modify as i get more used to it.
