they are very fast and handle very good..the brakes are good.and just like any stock suspension its not the greatest..the banshee is a little out dated but its still sweet..i think it was before its time..in 1987

Durability is great when stock or with mild tuning including pipes, airfilter, air box mods, and even mild porting and compression bumps. IMO the Banshee cannot be beat for thrills in the dunes. They can be a handfull for novice riders in other invironments. However many are ridden in trails, woods, etc. but it would not be my first choice for a trail quad. Front suspension is adequate but not up to YFZ450 standards when pushed hard and jumped. Rear suspension is fine.

Buddy of mine has a 98 Banshee, with Toomeys...runs like all hell. He had the FMF setup with a SST pipe, and the TurbineCore 2. I honestly couldnt really tell a difference between the two, except for a midrange pull with the FMF setup. I havent seen anyone around here with the DMC setup. I agree with oldturtle. The Banshee is a great atv, and alot of fun, especially on the sandbars around here, but in the trails it sucked. My buddy is always getting stuck in mud, and having to get off and pull it out, and also there is not reverse, so tight trails require work to get it turned around. He has Elka suspensions, so I don't know how it handled before with the stock suspension. I heard that Yamaha is going to discontinue the Banshees, so maybe you should go with a good 4 stroke. I have a Raptor and its great in the trails, and on the dunes.
Good luck eithier way.
