Default Does your Kodiak move forward in H?

When I put mine in H, it doesn't move forward unless I give it gas, unlike a car that moves in D even without pressing on the gas pedal. I was in grass when I did it with my Kodiak yesterday, but wonder if that is normal. I realize it has engine braking, but just want to be sure.

yes, normal.
most ATVs have a centrifugal type clutch which is actuated by raising the engine RPM, at idle speed the ATV should not move regardles which gear is it in. (unless you are on the down hill )
on some ATVs ( example kodiak) this allows you to start the ATV in any gear, by simply applying the rear brake as a safety meassure.

automatic transmission in cars use torque converter clutch which is mainly operated by hyraulic fluid or lets call it trans fluid. it slips when you take off , than a computer contorled solonoid locks it it up solid once you are cruising.
it is a totally different animal.

you want to have that on an atv because if you get off it while it's in gear you don't want it rolling away from you.

To get mine into low, i usually have to do the honda rock. rock the quad front to back, and make the wheels turn a bit. The cogs in the tranny arent quite lined up, and they need a bit of movement to line them up.
If this doesnt do it, then the shift linkage probably needs to be adjusted.
Does the low light come on?
