Default UNI vs. K&N Filters

I recently went to my local atv shop looking to buy the K&N kit for my 05 Rappy. The salesman told me it would be around $120 for the entire kit. I then laughed and purchased a UNI filter for $24 dollars. I know it shouldn't be as good as the K&N but is this price difference worth it? Why does K&N require all of this extra bracketry and adaptors? Just wondering if anyone has ever tried the UNI and if there is a HUGE difference in filters, worth the $100 difference in price?
Thanks

You misinterprited the sale. The 120 dollar package was for the prodesign adaptor, which is availible with either K&N OR Uni filters.

What you purchased was just a replacement uni filter, replacement K&N's are also availble for similarly low prices.

The prodesign is the way to go, much better seal with your airbox and filter and also allows you to run w/o the lid. Regardless of which filter you use.

I knew that it was for the entire kit...
But my question is...does that whole adapter/filter kit make that much a difference compared to just putting a better filter on? Can I not run it without a lid with just a stock filter or do I need the entire kit to do that?
What is the advantage to paying $120 for the whole filter/adapter setup rather than jut putting on a better filter? Is it worth the price diff?

Well, it seals off Dirt alot better with the other bracket. I would do it, why would you risk damaging your engine? is it neccesary? If you ride in sand yes.

So if I wanted to, I can't take the airbox lid off on a stock airfilter? I figured that would be sealed pretty well.

the lid holds the stock air filter type in place and snug. To remove the lid, youll either have to put screws in it to keep it snug, or buy the pro design adapter and filter.

I see! So the K&N w/pro design is probably worth the money then?

yeah if running without the lid, you dont have to worry about anything getting in your motor thats for sure. Pricey i think but seems everything is too expensive for these money muncher machines
