Raptor Performance-- Why so different?
#12
The Raptor does have GOBS of low end torque. What people have been posting is that it may be an improvement to gear the Raptor for more low end power. I agree. Even though it is torquey down low, it can probably be improved. I broke mine in correct and it will easily leave my stock '00 Banshee.

Will someone please tell me the truth. I was just reading some posts from the Bombardier thread and there are at least 5 different posts that say that the DS will beat a Raptor in a drag race. If that is the truth then I am really disappointed because I have raced many DS's and to me I thought they are pretty weak for a 650. I know I give some of you guys a hard time but I just having some fun with you but trust me if it is made by Yamaha I love it that's why I hope these guys are just trying to pull somebody's leg because I hope a Raptor will outrun a DS.

Have you had a chance to race a DS yet? By the way the Bombardier guys were talking they were beating the Raptor pretty bad. I just don't see that happening. Have you got to run a Banshee yet? How close are they if you have raced one?

I own a '00 Banshee (for now, but it is gone soon). Me and another guy raced them last night on pavement. We raced about 150 feet three times, switched riders, and raced three more times. Pulling out in first gear, the Banshee is right there, but after that, the Raptor pulled about 8-9 quad lengths (and was pulling away pretty quick) every time with either driver.

150 feet is as long as you raced? That doesn't tell me much. I know the Raptor will get the holeshot but I am interested in seeing the results of a drag race around 200 yards or more so the Banshee is allowed to wind out in 6th gear because as you know you don't hit the meat of the horsepower until you are revving in 6th gear. Thanks.

We'll Regarding the gearing, Maybe it is a problem with too little flywheel weight. When you drag race, you usually (heck Always) rev the engine up and then engage the clutch to take off. A lightened Flywheel will rev quicker but since it doesn't store up as much energy as a heavy flywheel, it will come off the pipe easier and bog then explode when its on the pipe. Banshees are notorious for this. Sounds like they went with a little too light flywheel. I wonder if anyone has made flywheel weights to cure this. I wouldn't gear down because then you run out of gear up top when that big motor could pull taller gearing than stock anyway. .....Just a thought

Come on Gary, (8-9 bike lengths in a 150 ft race)?
150 ft is only 50 yards, (1/2 of a football field). There is no way in hell that the raptor will beat the Banshee by 8-9 bike legnths in that distance. It would be damn lucky to beat it by that much, if at all, flat out in a 1/4 mile. If you did beat the Banshee that bad in 150ft, Try shifting the Banshee out of 1st gear next time. Btw, a stock Banshee went 15.33 at 77.05 mph in a June 1988 3&4 wheel action magazine while the 500 quadzilla went 15.09 at 79.29 mph. Please, would someone take there stock raptor to the local dragstrip and prove that it is the big bad new "KING". My friends stock ds 650 went 15.2 at 78mph, and has went 15.0's at 82 with a pipe and little taller gear, so you can try to beat those times too. The dragstrip is the only place to really see who is the quickest and the fastest. Show me some timeslips Raptor boys!
