Default Need help ASAP on Car stereo wiring ??

Hi, I am trying to wrap up the stereo install in my 1979 corvette. I just have 3 quick questions. I have a alpine cd player with a pair of pre-outs, a 2 channel alpine amp (for rear 6X9 speakers) and a powered Infinity subwoofer. I am just about done but i am confused on these 3 issues.

1.The power antennea wire- What kind of wire am i looking to splice into? Hot when the key is in ACC?start? Hot when car is running?

2. To turn-on lead of each unit (supply) wire (blue/white)

3. Can i use the single pair of rca jacks on the alpine amp to run the powered subwoofer? I will have to run a "Y" adapter cable. I am running the rca out from the rear channel of the CD deck to the 2 channel amp for the rear speakers.

3a. Can i run the infinity powered sub - RCA to RCA of the head unit using the front channel RCA's?
3b. If i do that will the front speakers still run off the radio speaker wires labled front?

All in all i have front speakers that i want to power off the CD deck, Rear speakers powered by the 2 channel alpine amp, and some way to get the signal to the powered sub woofer. The CD deck does not have a sub woofer out put. I thought about taking the alpine CD deck out of the work mini-van since it has sub woofer BS built in. The powered sub was a after thought. I bought it after i had bought the radio. I would have just taken it back today and exchanged it but the car wash was closed. lol

Thanks for the help. All of this could have been avoided it MTV would have Pimped My Ride.

1-2. I think what you are saying is you are looking for the power turn-on for the amps. On a Alpine radio it should be marked and i think it is a blue wire. It should only be hot when the radio is on.

3. You can run the amp off of one rca from the radio and the powered sub off the other and still use the radio to power your front speakers. Since you don't have a set of sub rca's on your Alpine radio, you probably want to use a crossover on the powered sub to filter out the highs. Your sub might have this built in so check.

If you have a radio with a sub rca, it would probably be worth swapping out because it would sound better and be easier to control.

Thanks for the fast help. The powered sub has all the controls on the front and easy to reach in the vett. So i am just looking for a hot wire when the car is on acc and running?

Thanks

Actually the radio requires two power wires. One is hot all the time and gives the radio power for memory of the clock and presets channels and such, the other is hot when the key is on. One wire is yellow and the other is red. I think the yellow should be connected to a wire that is hot all the time. Let me go check real quick, be right back.

I went to go look to make sure I am telling you right. So the wires coming out of your Alpine radio should be wired like this: The yellow wire should be hot all the time and the red wire should only be hot with the key on/acc. The blue with a white strip is going to be the amplifier remote turn on. You will need to run this to both the amp and the powered sub so they will come on when you turn on your radio. You only need to use the power antenna (blue) wire if your car has a power antenna, and that will give it power to raise up.

Don't worry about the power antennea wire, just make sure there are no exposed wires. The blue/white wire should run to your amp, to do this the right way, you would get a distributor block. That is basically a splitter where one wire goes in and two come out. You can just connect the wire from your deck to your amp, then from your amp to your sub.

Look on your amp, if it is a newer model it will have an input and output for RCA cables. Plug the RCA cables from your deck into the amp, then you should get another short set of RCA cables and go from the amp to the powered sub. Most likely, you sub has a built in crossover to filter out the mids and highs. If your deck has a set of sub pre-outs it would be best to run off that.

You can run the sub off the front RCA output and your front speakers will work as long as the speakers are connected to the front output speaker wires off the deck. You could do that, but it would probably be easier if your amp has an output for RCA cables.

Hope this helps.

Everyone else sounds correct, except every deck I've installed, the solid blue wire is the amp turn on. I've never done an alpine, so maybe they are different??

I don't think it matters too much which blue wire is used for the amp. On the older model decks, there is only one blue wire coming out and it says remote power/power anteana. So it seems like it wouldn't matter, but I would still use the correctly labeled wire for the amp.
