any ways to prolong the life of the stock tranny, nothing seems wrong or feels wrong right now. i am not going to use reverse alot. is there any way to check the tranny without taking the motor apart? thanks guys.

I would just say to take it easy on her.

 

I dunno if it makes any dif but I always get it into nuetral to start the engine. Also when I do use reverse, I let the clutch out slooooowly until you hear the thing engage. Same with going from reverse to first, out slow on the clutch and it clunks the rest of the way into gear. So far so good on our 01.

 

i burn out and powerbrake my 01 in foward and reverse and so far so good! I do let the clutch out real slow untill it engages 1st.

 

When hauling it leave it neutral

 

could that have been bad if i hauled it while it was in gear already? i drove it like 30 minutes home...mainly straight shots no braking.

 

No, you most likely haven't hurt your gearbox hauling it as you stated. I always haul mine in neutral, no sense in loading it for no good reason. The only sure fire way to prolong an 01 tranny that is going to blow is to not ride it. If its going to go, it will go. My 02 gearbox blew from a crappy 3rd gear.

 

guess ill just have to take my chances and see how she holds up.

What normally goes on these 01 raptors trannys?
when does it happen......trail ride....or haulin @ 70 mph down a dirt road?

 

it ussually gives changing into 2nd gear riding real hard i think.
