hi all
the thread got so long that it take for ever to get to the bottom of the last page.wsanders i hope you dont mind me continuing th subject.

scholls - i can't see the if the carbs open fully , because the tubes between the carbs and the air box are curved.
removing the restriction gives it even more grunt just after idle.

thks paul

I read up in the previous post and was wondering if you can explain in a little more detail what needs cut on the snorkle? Thanks Paul!

If this does in fact help, it would be a serious break through. I'm just guessing, since I'm kind of an idiot..., with this "restrictor plate" in the intake off the air box, wouldn't it basically nullify any horsepower gains by an aftermarket pipe?

Keep the good info coming, that way when I get mine in a month, I'll just have a checklist of what to do from you old pro's!

if you take the snorkel off , look at the side that fit over the airbox lid , you will see the snorkel is not fully open.
yamaha restricted the air flow by leaving a 1/3 of the opening blocked.they do this in the manufacturing prosses.
the piece or rubber is left in the middle of the snorkel .

you dont have to take the snorkel off ,just cut out the piece of rubber.the snorkel inlet is the same size as the part that fits on the lid ,it does not restrict the air flow like the banshee and blaster snorkels.

with the snorkel cut and the spark arrester out it is a new ball game.

no i dont think so.the stock pipe cant get the air out as quick as a aftermarket pipe can.by opening up the snorkel + hi-flow filter (when available) + a pipe nothing will catch the raptor.

ps it cant rev if it cant breath.

Did you have to re-jet after doing these mods? Also how much louder is the bike without the spark arrester? I pickup my new B&W Raptor tonight here in Arizona, the wait is finally over

Hey paulb, I just got my Raptor and took off the airbox lid and had a look at the snorkel. I see the piece of rubber you are talking about, it goes down the center of the snorkel and then fans out in the middle. It looks like to me it’s there to prevent the snorkel from collapsing. What did you cut out? The side pieces only? Leaving the piece going down the center? Thanks.

How hard was it to remove the spark arrestor? I'm trying to get mine out, but it seems to be stuck and I don't want to tear up anything in the process.
