I am starting to want a sport quad again. I finally have my race truck almost complete. Anyways, I am trying to make up my mind if I want a yfz450 or a trx450r. I know I had seen on the forums some that the 2004 yfz had some transmission problems. Have they fixed the problems for 05? Is there any other problems that have frequently occurred? Does anyone know of problems the Honda has had? Thanks in advance!

 

I belong to a lot of websites, and know a lot of YFZ owners, and I have never heard of these "transmission problems" you speak of.
The only Tranny probs I know of, are with the 01' Raptors

 

yea.. i don't beleive there's any tranny probs with the yfz, only the 01 raptors...

The only tranny problems from Yamaha ATV's I've heard were the 2001 Raptor's, I guess there's a new rumor about tranny problems for the YFZ. Well I'm just going to tell you that I haven't had any problems with my brothers YFZ, and that thing gets abused every weekend on the track. But there is broken frames from both machines, but I don't think any stock frame could take the punishment of hard landings on the track.

 

The tranny seems to be just fine on the yfz, the large number of stock engines seizing up or blowing all to heck was cause for concern, but those stories seem to have gone away so I would assume the issue has been dealt with.
