Default 2005 Yamaha Kodiak 450

I am looking at purchasing a new quad and wanted to get some feedback on the 2005 Yamaha Kodiak 450. I do a lot of hunting and need a quad I can get in and out of tight spaces. I have looked at the Yahama Grizzly 660 but think that would be to large for my purposes. Any feedback would be greatly apprciated.

I did alot of hunting with mine and had no problems I also have 500 miles on it and if I wasnt hunting I was riding on ruff trails and I have not had any issues yet. You need to search though because there has been alot of guys asking those same questions that you are and are numerous replies.

well it depends what you want to do with it. I mean if you want to hot rod it and race around you might not like it I am a small guy about 170lbs and I love mine. I think its a good quad for what i do some hunting and alot of difficult trail riding but I did modify mine for the extra power.

I will be using the quad to ride trails with my 8 year old and going to deer stands/pulling a small trailer with wood etc at the hunting camp. My brother has a 660 Grizzly and it just seems to big for what I need. I rode a lot when 3 wheelers were the big thing. That has been a few years ago!!!

Baumamudhog, you cant go wrong with a kodiak. Nothing in it class has all the features like locking front differential and the IRS. Check out my pictures of the buck mine pulled out of the woods this year.

Went with the Kodiak for the same reasons. Like the features on the Grizz but did not need that much power nor want the added size. Hunt out east in the woods and wanted more manuverablity. I definitely got what I asked for. Love the Kodiak and if I had to buy again this would be the machine.

I have 2003 Kodiak 450, and it has responded to every chore asked. I bought it in june '04 w/20 hrs on it and under 50 miles, w/a traler for $5,000 - and the trailer was garage kept too. The trailer that I haul the quad on(4x6?)(small) has a 1000lb rating, and I use it on the back of the quad to haul firewood etc. I was looking at a Grizzly, but decided this Kodiak was a good deal. It pulls my 14' loaded fishing boat up my 700 ft. driveway w/my kids in it - cheap thrills. I have yet to find a power issue. W/the low gear and diff. lock options I don't think power will be an issue. Local roads have shown the quad capable of 52+- mph. And this was done just to test the limits -will never need this speed again. Used primarily for hunting and work this quad will meet your needs - and then some. Bonus: This is a very compact quad. When maneuvering off the trail(cause as hard as I try the deer won't die on the trails) its size makes trail blazing between trees etc. easy. The guy I bought it off of showed me a pic of the quad w/ a deer on both racks and another being pulled from behind. I was sold.
