I recently found out that I have to change out the bearings in my rear swingarm on my Raptor. In order to do so I was told I need to take the rear axle off. Well there are two nuts that sit on the axle & seem like they are impossible to move. Any secrets on how I can get those nuts off? Is there an easier way?

 

Do you have a front swingarm too? lol..

I heard there being some kind of lock screws in those nuts that provent you from unscrewing them, and you have to loosen those screws first.

Like polish said there are set screws in the lock nut. Other then that a pipe on the end of a pipe wrench works good.

 

There are two small lock nuts on the outer nut that have to be unscrewed. Then, you will need a 50mm wrench to loosen the nuts with. If you don't care if you strip them then you could use a large pipe wrench(make sure you face it the correct way)

Also to keep these nuts from coming loose (when you are done rebuilding the carrier) there is a proper way to torque them. Even then they still like to come loose. Your best bet is to buy a aftermarket locking nut and toss the stock ones in the trash.

 

I removed the little screw in the nuts, but it seems like they don't wanna move. I'm pulling the outter nut up. Is that the right way?

 

From the back of the bike and the wrench to the rear you should be pushing down.

 

Remember for 99% of bolts, nuts and screws. Turn right to tighten, left to loosen........Righty tighty, lefty loosy
