Default 2 or 4WD

I am considering getting a utility quad and I have alot of questions. I've always had a banshee, but I'd like to get something I could use at the farm that's more practical along with some recreation at the dunes, etc. There are so many choices it's almost mind numbing because everybody has their own opinion. Some are die hard Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, etc., and ride those quads for those reasons. I'm strongly considering a Bruin 350 or Kodiak 450. I know there is a huge difference between the two, but I was wondering if people could comment on the need for 4WD. It's pretty arid out here and it's not really ever that muddy. It doesn't snow all that often either. I'm only going to go to the dunes occassionally and probably never go to the mountains or in a mud bog. Is 4WD really worth the extra dough for my situation? Don't get me wrong, I love the looks of a 4WD and knowing you have the capability of doing some serious off-roading, but how often do people really need it on a regular basis. Any info appreciated.

You may want to look at the Yamaha Wolverine. It is a 350 sport utility ATV. It has full time full time four wheel drive but you can put on a warn 424 select to enable you to put it into two wheel drive. I haven't had mine in the dunes or sand but from what I hear they are not that bad. Some other Wolverine owners may have more information for you.

Good luck.

I have a bruin 4x4 and love it. From the conditions that you are going to ride in, I would go with the 2 wd and save some money. I had a 2wd trailboss for 2 years and never got stuck with it and rode through some nasty stuff with it. Put a good set of back tires on it, a little skill and some common sense and you will do great. lol

For what I'm going to do it would probably be best to get the 2WD, but it sure would be nice to have the option of 4 wheel if I ever needed it. Thanks for the info.
