This past summer i bought a 1989 banshee. The guy i bought it off bought it as a basket case, got it together ran it for a month and was scared of it so had to sell it.
I got it home ran it for about 3 hours(loving every minute) and noticed it was bogging out. It ran for about 2 minutes after that and died. Couldn't kick it over but got it jump started and it ran for 5 minutes and the same thing happen again. Jump started it 4 or 5 more times, then it totally died.
Checked the fire and only the right side was getting fire. Then checked again and there was no fire at all on either side.
My buddy has a 89 banshee too o we changed the coil and cdi box but no luck. Does the cdi box have to be grounded to the frame? If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated. thanx

bad plug wire or connection. You also better check the compression on the cylinders. also check the spark module. you might want to switch the spark module wires to see if the other side fires with the working spark module.

Check the plug caps - should have 5k ohms resistance and also the electrical connection by the air filter on the right side (sitting on the quad)of the quad. These two things fixed my brother in law's Banshee and he had the same symptoms. By the way, 76psi is way low for a Banshee. At sea level you should have approximately 130 psi.

It sounds to me like you need to get some pistons/rings.

You should be seeing way above 76 LBS in each cylinder. Closer to 120 at least. At the moment, Mine has around 130...that's after about 6 months on the pistons.

I would also do a leakdown test. Check the head gasket ( do you see any leaking?)

if i needed piston and rings it would still get fire wouldn't it? i thought it could only be something electrical? remeber its a 1989, its not going to have the same pressure as a new one.
