Default slack in axle...

i was out riding and i noticed clicking when i rocked my machine....so i tightened the wheels like i had to before because it was making noise...(that time it fixed the problem), but this time that wasnt the solution...when i rock my wheel back n forth while its in the air the axle seems to move around a little bit...do i need to tighten those 2 bolts?, i hope this isnt something serious...thx for the input

my neighbor has an 01, and he had the same problem, it was his axle carrier, which I hear 01's are notorious for.

yeah you need to tighten the 2 nuts

probably the bearings in the carrier are gone
you can get new bearings and a new crush tube(spacer between bearings)
at ripper racing for like35 bucks

If the bearings are bad then they could bind up and not allow your axle to turn, which would not be a good thing if you are riding it at the time. So yeah, its something you should get replaced before you ride it too much.

Zim,

What nuts did you tighten? The ones that hold your hubs on out by your wheels or the two big nuts on the axle itself? Two different problems here.

The axle bearing is some work to replace. You need some special wrenches to get the axle nuts off and back on and torqued right. also pounding the axle out can be hard to do without destroying the threads on the ends. Check your upper and lower shock bushings too. They will make a clicking sound when they go too.
