Buddy of mine has a raptor Its piped ,cut air box,outerwear

Prob is the other day its running perfect and the all of a sudden its missing and poping mid to high range
when it starts to miss the reverse light starts to flash?

Any ideas?

 

Don't know if this will help but just for information my 2004 wolverine did the exact same thing. It would cut out and backfire if you tried to give it any throttle over just about idle position. After four trips back to the dealership they finally told me it was the stator or regulator. These parts aren't to cheap, thank god it is still under warranty. This may help.

 

check and see if the exhaust has any leaks or the seal around the airfilter is tight.check the boots on the carbs, they may have been blown off.

 

WHITE7, i guarantee i know what your problem is, it happens to mine about once a year.
Trust me on how to fix it.

Where your shift linkage connects to the tranny, their is a black wire(NOT THE WIRE THAT IS HELD ON BY A SCREW), its the wire that you can simply pull off. It is either loose or dirty, you have sand, mud, dirt or something in their to make those symptoms. Mine gets sand in it about once a year. pull it off and clean the bad connection(inside) and clean the plug where it goes into the tranny.

thats the only reason why your raptor is cutting out and the reverse light is coming one, what happens its your computer think its in revers, and teh reve limter is kicking in.

dumb question, but your sure he re-jetted it? if he has no air-box, or highly moddified one, then he needs some major gas, he would be running lean, a lot lean. that will cause a lot of backfireing and popping. if his plug is whitish, tell him to up the jets.

So far same problem ,were kinda at a loss ,,weve changed the CDI,,coil,,pulled the head and checked the valves,,swaped another set of carbs on,,the only thing we havent done yet that i can think of is a compression test ,,,any other ideas,,anything
