All you Kodiak 450 owners what can Of milage are you getting? I just upgraded from a 00 Big Bear and was used to getting about 60 to 80 miles out of a tank. (not using reserve) Depending on terrain. My 05 450 is only getting about 40 to 50 miles out of a tank. About 400 miles on the odometer. Same trails and riding conditions. Oh ya, I still have the oe tires on. Just a little curious.

I just bought my second machine about 1 month ago and I find that the Kodiak 450 is getting alot less milage then my old 97 big bear 350.

But I only have about 4 hours on the kodiak so far and we were 2 on the machine and I was able to get 30miles on 3/4 of the tank.

 

 

Yeah 40 - 50 miles to a tank sounds about right. I haven't really paid that much attention to it until My dad and I went out for a ride when I was out at my parents place. His 92 kodiak gets almost twice the milage mine does and it's a fulltime 4x4. The milage will get a little better when the machine is broke in also.

 

I have about 450 miles on my 05 kodiak, and I have to admit when I am going riding I make sure to check the fuel level. This is about the only complaint I have with the Kodiak. I had it in the dealership yesterday for the first oil change, and they could not grease the rear zerks, I tried to tell them it was nearly impossible, and probably needed a 90 degreee zerk to be able to get on there. They said they were going to check with Yamaha about a special grease gadget to get in there. If anyone knows the size of these zerks, let me know, I will change them myself, because I want to grease them more than when I change the oil(I will be changing the oil myself from now on). Any way the fuel comsumption seems to be more than the average atv that my friends are riding, Polaris, Bear Tracker, and various Honda's. Also I have the 25" DU Wetlands on order, should be here in a couple of days, to replace my OE Maxxis.

 

Ok... I'll get this out. New to the forum...I had a 2001 Kodiak I could get 60 miles easy. Just bought a new 450 only has 15 miles so far..

But? I need to ask? My new 450 sits lower on the left side about 3/8" both front & rear are the same. The tires are inflated equally & the preloads are set all the same. Has anyone else had this problem?

 

My Kodiak seems to be setting level, I have not noticed any difference side to side. By the way, I figure about 50- 60 miles to a full to the neck tank of gas, I didn't say that in previous post.

 

Hey Captain, Use a 5/16 wrench take one out and go to the parts store tell um you want four metric fittings 45degree. When you get them in, mine were really to get they to take grease guess cause its new and the bushing have a very tight fit. Yeah and the fuel mileage sux, but whats 7or8 bucks for a day of ridding.

 

I just love it when you tell the dealer to grease the rear fittings. Alot of us have already been thru this and the thing to do is go to the auto part store and get some metric fittings. I found a assorted pack that had 45 dergree and 90 degree one. They worked great. I had to place a small washer on two of them so they would end up tight facing to the rear. It's a breeze to grease them now.
I think you"ll find you MPG will increase as your motor breaks in, along with more power. I've got close to 500 miles on mine and it's running like a scauled dog![img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

 

Hey thanks for the info, I will be buying those new grease fittings and installing them. I have noticied improved performance as the engine breaks in, and the fuel mileage has gotten better.
