02 Raptor. Is my tranny going out???
#1
I was riding Sunday and a couple things went wrong. One time I was just riding along and it died. When I tried to start it all it would do would make a clicking sound from the battery. I push started it and after that it was fine. Then later that evening, I smelled something and smoke was coming from the engine area. I shut the motor off and the motor was trying to start by itself. I turned the key off and it still tried to start by itself. After it stopped that, I tried to start it and it was clicking at the battery again. I let it set for a while then it started fine. O.K., here comes that tranny part. I got the atv hung up and was trying to back up a hill. The rev limiter wasn't allowing me to get started so I was working the clutch to try to get it going. After finally realizing this wasn't going to work. I had to be winched up. Now when I ride it, it is slipping bad. Like if you were trying to ride with the clutch lever pulled half way in. Can anyone give me some advice on these two different problems I am having.
Thanks,

not a tranny problem(the 02 trannys are pretty damn solid) if that makes you feel better. The first I would say is a bad CDI or another problem in the electrical. The second is a slipping clutch, worn clutch discs. No big deal, about 100 dollars and five hours of your time and you are back on the road. As for the electrical that can be a real bugger I would check the battery conection and make sure they are tight, then go through the wires and make sure none have been frayed or melted through(could cause smoking is it was touching the exhaust. Other than that Im out of ideas
