Add to the above. The 450 is actually a 421 cc. Also the 450 has the digital instrument panel. I can't tell you about mud yet since I just got mine today.

Had my Kodiak to 56 mph yesterday, very stable, and comfortable at that speed. Is pretty much unstoppable in the mud even with the stock tires, the diff lock and low gear is a powerful combination. Have had no problems with mine, just had to change the grease fittings on the rear a-arms, put on angle fittings so I could grease them. I have about 475 miles on mine, great trail, mud, or work atv, I am very pleased.

It comes in black? The first I've heard of it, but anythings possible. I had mine up to 52mph yesterday. The diff-lock is a must and this is one awesome machine, that has NO limitations. The 450 had the digital display also. haven't had mine in mud yet but I have no worries taking it out in the snow, even with the stock tires

They made a black kodiak a few years ago and it was only available in Canada I think. I have seen that black one before on the web site and it does look good. I asked my dealer about a black on for 05 and he does know anything, but we are way up north, so are the last to receive product news and info. I would get the black if you can, it looks sweet.

I think the black one is a Special Edition according to Yamaha's website. Just bought a red one, because that was the only color my dealer had.
