My son has a 1986 YFM200 Yamaha Moto4 that starts 1st or 2nd pull with the recoil, but will not start with the electric start. The motor turns over just like it always has with the electric starter but it will just keep turning and will not fire. We pulled the plug and the spark is very weak when using the electric start, but if you pull it over with the recoil the spark is strong. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the valves may have to be adjusted. my quad wouldnt start with the elcectric but it would with pull start or pop start it. check them.

 

Could also be a bad ground wire, not making good contact, or a weak battery. If the battery is marginal, the volts will drop far enough while cranking, that the spark gets weak. Monitor the voltage while cranking, or have the battery load tested.
