Default Raptor Trinity 727 will only bump start -- Wish I had a kick starter

My Raptor does not start and I have tried trouble-shooting the solenoid and also charged the battery. It's got old gas that I should try draining and also cleaning the carb.

Should I get a bigger battery like the one for Grizzly?

My Raptor is for sale now since I ride alone often and do not want to get stuck in the middle of bfe. Ouch!!

Why don't they have kick starters anyway?!? Please help. Thanx.

What happens when you hit the start button? The more details you provide, the better advice you'll get.

When I hit the starter button, the motor will try and turn over maybe once and then will do nothing.

After that, I try hitting the starter button again and all is does is click. Battery & Solenoid seem fine.

Bike runs great when it finally starts after I bump start it.

FYI: Starting my Honda XR650R enduro bike is reliable and easy with just one kick.

POSSIBLE FIXES:
Starter Relay
Decom. pin in wrong position?
Upgrade battery
Old gas
Starter
Starter Clutch

Check your choke plunger at the carg. Even though the thumb lever feels smooth and travel fully left and right, the earlier Raptor choke plungers would get moisture and rust, then seize. If it seized in a choked condition, your bike will have difficulty staring, especially if it's being started in a warm climate that doesn't require being choked. Be caeful pulling the plunger out if it's stuck or you could pull the cable end out and then your gonna have to drill it out. Good luck.

First do a good check on the batteray.............turn on the lights to remove the surface charge and connect you meter leads.......it should be above 12v dc.

But like everyone else says the battery is always good it is only x amount years old has always been tightly strapped in adn always PROPERlY charged.

hen hit the starter switch and test the voltage at the starter, and compare it to the manuals spec, if yes, test the resistance of the starter motor and compare it to spec...........if not test the solenoid to the manuals spec.

have you thought of looking for a high output starter? think of the guys running 600 hp engines in race cars and mud trucks. a stock starter isnt going to put out the cranking amps needed to get past the compression. check ricky stator or a company that deals with electrical stuff and see if there's a high output starter on the market for a raptor.

My Raptor does that too, and after I got a bigger battery (off the grizz), it worked better. It still struggles with starting, but is much more reliable. It still wont start if I have had it sitting for a while, just gotta keep it connected to a trickle charger so it has max power when I begin to try to start it. I'd say first try to get the bigger griz battery.
