Default Grizzly Vs Kodiak, Please help!

I have narrowed my choices for a new quad down to 05 Grizzly or 05 Kodiak. I know that the Kodiak is pretty much a smaller version of the Grizz, which is one reason I like it. All (or most) of the features of a top of the line big bore in a smaller and cheaper package. My only reservation about the Kodiak is the engine size. It's got a 421cc engine but only weighs 9 pounds less than the Grizz. Thats 239 less cc's pulling basically the same weight. I'm worried that the Kodiak is going to be under powered. Also, any other pros or cons of either machine. Those who know please fill me in.

well, you hit it on the head with the power to weight ratio. the advantige the grizzly has is the power. that is the only advantige. alot more power, and with more power, comes more headaches.
the griz will give you a bigger set to take more on, and in turn, make more work for you to repair, lol. the kod is a little more nimble, but with less power.
both great choises, with the reliability nod going to the kodiak.
so, more power, more mud, more tire, more repairs, go with the grizzly.
more reliable, more nimble, less rip your guts out bang for the buck, get the kodiak.
myself, i just cant refuse that much more power for less than a grand more.

I flip-flopped over the same thing and finally decided on the 05 Grizzly after riding both of them...I have no regrets. Get the Grizzly.

02 and 03 Grizzlies had there probs. with axles and vapor locking , but on 04 and 05 models those probs. have all been fixed, they are some of the most dependable wheelers out there. If you get the Kodiak you will get use to the power very quickly , if you are not an aggressive rider you will probably be very happy with it , but if you want get roudy and keep up or dust your buddies , and roost mud and tackle steep hills you will want to go with the Griz, I myself love the power of the Griz and are adding mods to get more, POOOWWWWEEERRR!!!! Good luck in your decision . For most people its really just about riding.

As the owner of a modifed Grizz, I can honestly say that I would probably be perfectly happy with a Kodiak, but now I am a power addict. I just changed my griz again to get more torque by changing the clutch weights. It is too much fun to play with and the results are unbelievable. It will lift the front end off the ground without help and accerates from 0 to 60 like a sports car.

Both the Kodiak and Grizzly are great machines. You just have to ask yourself one thing...Do you want more top end? If the answer is yes....go with Grizzly
