Default Broke another chain on my raptor

I recently changed my front sprocket to a 12 tooth instead of stock 13. This loosened my chain alittle an two weeks ago it came off and broke at the MX track. So I got a brand new chain on this week and within an hour I have already broke it!!! It came off the sprocket and damaged two links. I had a shop install it. Why would it have broke on the first ride? What could they have done wrong???

Sounds like the chain is too tight, thats usually why they snap. A warped or bent front or rear sprocket will do it, as will as a misaligned rear sprocket.

when you went up a tooth in the front sprocket, did you add a halflink or anything? i've been told many times never to put a halflink in a chain. did the chain pop off and then break or just break? if it pops off and then breaks, its a problem with alignment of sprockets or just too loose a chain. if it just snapped, then it was too tight. was the chain tension all the wasy loose when you added the larger sprocket?

Well it didnt snap it just came off and then bent two links and damaged the sidewall of my swingarm. I am thinking the shop is going to fix it free, seeing as they installed it....I hope so....thanks for the replys...

Going to the 12 tooth makes a tighter turn for your chain, and also more susceptible to coming off. Chances are in both cases your chain was to loose, allowing it to jump off the sprocket. Depending on your chain type/brand, I could see it stretching and being to loose after the first few hours of use. Also, it is basic maintenance to put a chain on and adjust it, I wouldn't pay a shop to do it. Learn how yourself and save some $$.

This may sound stupid but worn swingarm bushings will also mess with your chain especially if you are riding real hard in corners. The swingarm moves to the side and the chain gets misaligned and will break masterlinks.

Thanks for the replys. I am running a renthal o ring chain. I took my bike into the shop today. The swingarm had some damage too....they said they would take care of me for free. Anyway I only had a shop put my chain on because I was also having them put a new extended axle on my bike too....I will let you know what the problem was when I get my bike back
