Default function of a locker/unlocker?

I was just wondering what does each device do? I know the Locker locks your diff so you get true 4 wheel drive but if I buy a locker do I need an unlocker too? I guess the real question is what is an unlocker and do I need one to go with a locker?

Default function of a locker/unlocker?

according to the highlifter site, the locker is automatic. A gearless locker. if I can turn it on and off then thats what I'm lookin for. I dont want to put a locker on if its gonna keep the front diff locked ALL THE TIME.

Gearless lockers still allow the quad to steer without tons of effort. They use a steel disc assembly instead of gears which still allows differential action in turns.

Default function of a locker/unlocker?

I'm lookin for a setup similar to the grizz. I want a diff lock that I can turn on or off as I choose. First off, does anyone make one for a 04 big bear and if so where can I find it? I see highlifter has a locker and an unlocker. is this what I'm lookin for? or does the locker lock the diff and the unlocker do something totally different? Any help is appreciated.

A locker as you already know just locks your diff for true 4wd. The unlockers you're seeing are for atvs that are full time 4wd's. A lot of the Foremans, the Big Bears, Wolverines, etc. do not have selectable 2wd/4wd. The unlocker allows those who own one of these machines to put their machine in to 2wd for a sportier ride. It looks like you own a Big Bear and if you would like the option of 2wd you need the unlocker. Otherwise no.

Thanks for the explanation. I dont need an unlocker because my BB has push button 4x4. Like I said I'm lookin for a selectable diff lock. Thanks again.

I didn't know Yamaha gave the Big Bear selectable 4wd. My friend has a 2000 Big Bear and it doesn't have the option to select 2wd. I guess that means the Wolverine is Yamahas last machine with full time 4wd then. You're right then, you have absolutely no need for an unlocker kit.
