I'm buying an 01 banshee monday. I've always been a four strike guy so I know nothing about 2 strokes. Could some of you banshee owners give me some tips and tricks to keep it running smooth and maybe some little tricks I can do to make it faster? Also am I getting a good deal? $3000 for an 01 banshee with new plastics, toomy t7 full system pipes,new torquer crank, it's been bored and sleeved ported and polished, 3 hours on a new rebuilt motor. thankx rotty150 I'll post a pic in my page when I get it

 

You got a very good price if it is all in good shape. I don't understand why the sleeve job. This is boreable cast iron cylinder so usually they just bore and replace piston. Maybe you have very large over bore. Do you know? Rec'm you check air filter and make sure the micky mouse stock Yamaha filter retainer system has been replaced with pro flow clamp-on system. I recm a good foam air filter like Twin-air for best all around performance and protection or a K&N with outerwear only if you are strictly a sand dune rider. Carefull air filter maint is probably the most important thing you can do. Carefully watch the carb jetting and carb sync. Check out Banshee HQ web site for jetting info. Recm you pull rear linkage and swing arm off and lube everything. Recm you hit all the front zerks. If bike still has the stock TORS (throttle override system) you will probably want to junk the whole mess. This seems to cause more problems than it solves. See HQ again for info. Otherwise ride and try to keep a straight face. This is one big grin producer. Most owners prefer Yamalube 2R at 32 to 1 but whatever you use keep it fresh. Always use 92 oct pump premium. If bike is going to sit long recm drain float bowls or use Sta-bil.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]
I really would not be very concerned about trying to make it faster than it is now. With the pipe and overbore it is probably as fast as you want for now. Lots of guys advance the timing, install higher compression heads, lighten flywheel, how much money do you have? These things will make it harder to ride and you may not need this when first starting out with a Banshee also these things often require race gas which can be expensive. It will use twice as much gas as a 4-stroke as is.

T-7's?? theirs only T-5's and T-6's so... yea. very fast bike
