Default Wolverine needs help!

I've got a 99 wolverine you can read the specs. I'm watching my friends on other bikes doing things mine won't do. I'd like to be able to wheelie it in the water and on land w/o dropping the clutch. Seems I don't have the torque that they have to lift it.

Also, I find I'm having a hard time spinning the tires in mud and getting stuck more than others.

Coming off hills my friends are able to pull wheelies and ride them out, I can't yet.

Also, when I jump it I'm getting between 2-3 feet off the ground in the back, 4-5 on the front. How much air have other wolverine riders been able to get? Also, to do the jumps I have to be in a lower gear and winding the heck out of the engine. I'm sure everyone around is suggesting that I shift, but if I do then i can't get the speed for the jumps. Is this ok? Or is there another way?

First mod I'm going for is a 424 but where to go from there and what's it going to cost to get it to do some of these things? I keep getting advice from friends but none of them ride a wolverine and I'm not into taking their advice since they don't know my bike.

OK my first suggestion is to GET RID of those HUGE tires. I have stock tires on mine with the only mods being a K&N filter and outerwear, and jet kit. With just these simple mods I am able to just pull up on the bars and give a good shot of throttle and up comes the front end.

As for getting air, I've had mine atleast 8FT in the air. I am usually in about the middle of 4th gear to do this. Those huge tires are also keeping you on the ground.

I have just ordered ITP type 5 C-series wheels with Carlisle 489s mounted, Warn 424, and a super trapp slip on. In about 6months to a year I'll be thinking big bore, if its still around. All of what I ordered was around $1,000. From what I hear the pipe and jet kit, and filter do a good job of gaining power.

Hope this all helps.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will probably down size the tires a bit when I wear them out. I'd like to see what I can do to help it out while I still have these tires. I can't go w/ factory w/ all the mud I play in. Eight feet in the air, that's pretty impressive. How are you doing that? I was finding that w/ only 2-3 feet I was bottoming it out. I adjusted the shocks on it and have fixed that issue for now.

2bulls hit it right on the head, a stock Wolverine with the higher sport gearing it has, will bog down real bad in mud with tires like that. If you want to run those, you will need some motor work, a pipe and filter will help, but if you want to pull the front end with 26" tires, you will need piston and cam mods to provide the torque you need. If huge tires are a necessity, then maybe you'll need a bigger quad !!!

Any suggestions on filter and pipes? I don't want to be incredibly loud but need more power. Also, it was suggested that I bore out the motor. What do I need as far as piston and cam mods? I'm making a list of what I need to do to get this thing the way I want it. I wouldn't mind another quad but I'm not interrested in paying what it costs for the new big boys. I love my wolverine and I'm convinced that if I play w/ it and modify it that I'll love it even more.

For a filter I suggest K&N, I use it in every thing I can and have never been disapointed. As for a pipe thats really up to you, there are so many that do good. One thing you should do is ask the manufacturer where the gains are most, if they cannot tell you don't buy their pipe. This means that they don't have the means or willing ness to test their product(both are not benefitial to us). I ordered the Super Trapp IDS2 cause you can tune it somewhat to where you want to see gains. With you running 26" tires you should look for a pipe that is going to give you most on the bottom end. As for the 8ft of air its just a bit of know how,lol jk make sure when you land your not just dropping from the sky, I think that you must be hitting a good jump at a low speed, when you do that you don't soar you simple drop. Don't go faster than you are comfortable with, cause if you panic while in the air its not gonna be nice when you land. Just keep trying a bit faster each time till you get it. Remeber don't push it too hard we all want to hear about your experience not you trip to the hospital!

I just thought of another thing that you might wanna look into that I heard about. If you plan on spending the majority of your time playing in the mud look into putting a big bear gear box in to give more low end to turn those huge tires. I'm not sure how this is done or if it works for sure but I remember reading a post somewhere thats what someone did.

Hope this all helps.

Buy a locker n unlocker kit. Lock the diff in mud so u can spin the tires easy. n throw it in 2wd for wheelies. More power to the back wheels. A torque stuffer and a pipe would HELP ALOT.
