If you are close to sea level, or the temps are cold, then automatically go with the 48 pilot 1st.
If they are well above sea level, or the temps are hot, then you may well be able to just stick with a 45 pilot.
Either way won't kill you, but I have heard that doing the cam mod can cause hard starting issues. Many of these people with the hard starting issues said it started up easily when they bumped up to a 48 pilot. I'd at least have one on hand.

I am running a 45 pilot, stock needle on the 5th clip, a 172 main, and 2 1/2 turns out on the fuel screw.
It probably doesn't matter whether you do it now, or wait, but for me, I personally, would wait till the quad is fully broken (if it is not already).
I am also waiting to do the cam mod, but will also probably be doing it in June as I have now read enough about it, seen enough feedback, and seen enough dynos showing that it gains power everywhere in the power curve (if jetted properly).
I tend to be cautious and do a LOT of research before trying anything out for myself. I am now confident that the cam mod is a good thing.
If you do one mod at a time, it will also tell you how much power each mod gives. If you do it all at once, you don't know what caused what, and it can sometimes be a nightmare to jet if you do several mods all at once.
Therefore, I will intall the K&N first on mine, then do the cam mod, then install the Crower Gen1 intake cam (supposed to give a ton more bottom end and midrange, but not as hot on top).
This way I can keep track of what mods are truly making good gains, and hopefully avoid jetting problems at the same time.

yea i hear ya on that totally what i'm doing is the k&n filter mod no lid, full exhaust kit and rejet it and wait a bit til i do the cam's... ill keep the suggested jetting, ill tell if it isnt getting enough fuel or air etc... pilot 45 main jet 175 and the needle... 2-3 oil changes then maybe the cam's

I have the ESR intake and it's good, sure you have to clean it, big deal! It also sounds sweet, it sounds like it's turbocharged. See my pics to see it.

i just put new pics on my page check them out i heard to remove the air box is bad, too much dirt etc.... yea you clean but i guess doesnt help as much but whatever youre preference is, i finally completed all my ups today and ill tell ya all that i did, MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE. the cam mod, no lid on airbox, rejetted, and full YOshimura pipe and header... it stalled a few times but nothing i can't handle, needed to warm up and get some gas in it... if anyone does these i felt riding it from 2nd to 3rd gear the bike wanted to really take off and get moving so hang on... excellent upgrades for the yfz450....
